This ever popular Chinese dish is really easy to make.

When you eat these deep fried vegetable balls in a soya sauce based gravy, do not let mundane things like the weighing scale bother you! Just dig into these deep fried delights and enjoy!

This delicious and spicy dish is a perfect example of fusion of Indian and Chinese cuisine.

For the vegetable balls

  • 1 cup grated carrot
  • 1 cup grated cabbage
  • 1 cup grated capsicum
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1tsp black pepper powder
  • ½ tsp Chinese salt
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2tbsp corn flour
  • Oil for deep frying

For the sauce

  • 1tbsp ground garlic
  • 1tsp ground ginger
  • 1 cup water
  • 1tbsp soya sauce
  • 1tsp corn flour
  • 4tbsp ketchup


Mix all the ingredients for the vegetable balls in a bowl.

Combine well until all ingredients form a soft dough. Do not add water, the water from the veges will act as a binder.

Make small balls from this mixture and keep aside.

Heat up some oil, and add the balls one at a time.

Cook them until they are golden brown.

Now for the sauce

Add the ginger and garlic into a wok, with 1tbsp oil, heat up until you can smell the fragrance of the ginger and garlic.

Add all the other ingredients except corn flour and water. Cook for 5 minutes.

Add the corn flour and water and cook until a thick gravy is formed.

Place the balls in the gravy and coat generously.

Since it is a combination of different vegetables so it is highly nutritious. Its your choice to use any combination of vegetables as per your taste. This recipe is healthy for all ages. You can serve with plain roti, tandori roti, roomali roti, poori or paratha.

  • Red capsicum- 1 medium size (chopped)
  • Green capsicum- 1 medium size (chopped)
  • Yellow capsicum- 1 medium size (chopped)
  • Cauliflower- 1 small size (chopped)
  • Broccoli- 1 small size (chopped)
  • Carrot- 2 small size (chopped)
  • Potato- 2 small size (chopped)
  • French bean- 50 gms (chopped)
  • Onion- 2 small size (chopped)
  • Paneer- 200 gms (chopped)
  • Tomato puree- 1 cup
  • Cream- 1/2 cup
  • Garlic pod- 8
  • Ginger- 2″
  • Black cardamom- 4
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Black pepper- 10 to 15
  • Cloves- 10 to 15
  • Cinnamon stick- (2″) 2
  • Bay leaves- 4 small
  • Turmeric powder- 1tsp
  • Garam masala- 1 tsp
  • Chilly powder- 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1 tsp
  • Oil- 2 tbsp
  • Salt- to taste


Heat oil in a frying pan and when oil is heated add cumin seeds, black cardamom, cloves, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, black pepper, grated garlic and ginger. Stir it for few seconds.

Add potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and stir it about 10 minutes (since they take longer time to cook).

Then add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder and salt and let it cook for another 2-3 mins.

Add tomato puree and stir it, until oil starts seperating from it.

Now add broccoli, onion, french beans, all 3 capsicum, cream and stir it for another 3-4 minutes.

Add garam masala and keep stirring until the cream is absorbed completely.

Now add paneer and mix it well.

Place it in a serving bowl and garnish it.

Ribollita, Vegetable and Bread Soup Tuscan Recipe


Ribollita means reboiled. Traditionally, ribollita is a bread-thickened vegetable soup. This recipe comes from a restaurant in Florence, the Giannino in Florence. It is prepared with different ingredients from how my mother in law prepares it at home. There are many variations, try the one that seems the most appealing to you.

  • 1 cup cannellini beans, uncooked
  • 1 large red onion, sliced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 4 potatoes, diced
  • 10 zucchini, diced
  • 1 1/2 cups swiss chard, shredded
  • 1 leek
  • 1 savoy cabbage, shredded
  • 1 bunch kale, shredded
  • salt and pepper
  • 2-3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 days old stale Tuscan white bread
  1. Soak the beans overnight and then cook over low heat. It will take approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours for them to cook.
  2. In a pan, gently fry the onion. Add the other vegetables, with the exception of the cabbage, kale and beans which are added at a later point. When the vegetables have sweated out their juice, cover with hot water and then add all the cabbage and kale. Cover and simmer for an hour over medium heat.
  3. Add the cooked beans (some of them whole and some pured), salt and pepper. Leave to simmer for another 20 minutes, stirring frequently because the beans tend to stick to the bottom of the pan. Add the tomato paste.
  4. Slice the stale bread and, in an earthenware casserole, alternate layers of bread with the soup until the bread is soaked. Let rest for one day.
  5. To serve, remove the desired quantity from the casserole and reheat it, or “re-boil” it, as the name in Italian suggests.
