Sprouts Veg Cutlet |

We usually have sprouts in salads. Including sprouts in our daily diet is mandatory, so why not try out some mouth-watering recipes with sprouts. Here is a baked cutlet recipe, which contains mixed sprouts and makes a healthy and light evening snack for all.

  • 1 cup mixed sprouts
  • 2 potatoes
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 chopped green chillies
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • A little corn flour


Fry sprouts for 2-3 minutes with some oil. Take the sprouts in a mixing bowl. Boil potatoes and mash them.

Mix onions, mashed potatoes, green chillies, garam masala, coriander, salt and chilli powder to the sprouts. Add limejuice and mix all the ingredients well.

Make small balls with the mixture and flatten them. Roll them over corn flour and place them on a greased baking tray. Bake in an oven setting temperature to 150-180 degrees for about 20 minutes.

Serve hot with any chutney or sauce.

Veg Hakka Chow Mien |

Chow mien traditionally is a Chinese dish but it has paved its way into Indian cuisine with Indian modifications. Chow mien in Kolkata is a popular street food. You can find people eating chow mien on roadside stalls. This dish is mostly eaten as an evening snack than for dinner. Also it’s a great dish to prepare for your children for variation.

  • 200 gms of Hakka chow mien
  • 1 medium sized onion chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper roughly chopped
  • 4 spring onions chopped
  • 1 cup frozen sweet corn
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (dark)
  • 4-5 cloves of garlic finely chopped
  • 1 fresh red chilli sliced into 2
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp ajinnomoto or MSG
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 tbsp of refined oil

Boil the chow mien in water along with salt and a splash of oil. Once the strands are soft drain out the water and spread on a plate.

Sprinkle some oil and mix the chow mien well. This is to prevent the strands from sticking to each other.

Next heat a wok with the oil. Once the oil is heated up add the garlic and red chilli. Fry for about 30 sec.

Now add the onions, white part of spring onion and fry for about a minute. Once the onions add soft and translucent the corn and capsicum. Fry for another minuted.

Next add in the chow mien and mix very well so as to mix in the vegetables.

Now add the soy sauce, salt and MSG. Mix well. Finally sprinkle the black pepper and give it a quick mix. Serve hot.

Serving Instruction

Chow mien in Kolkata is having as it is with tomato ketchup or chilli sauce. You can also have it with a bowl of chilli chicken or chilli paneer.

Veg Momos

Veg Momos is a type of dumplings of vegetables. It is made with all purpose flour (or maida). This is a very delicious snack. The momos can be cooked either by steaming or deep frying. They are generally served with chili sauce.

Serves: 4


For dough

  • All-purpose flour: 3 cups
  • Oil: 1 tbsp
  • Carrom Seeds (Azwain): 1 tsp
  • Water : 3/4 cup or as required
  • Salt to taste

For Vegetable Filling

  • Cabbage : 1/4 cup (finely chopped)
  • Carrot : 1/4 cup (grated)
  • Spinach : 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
  • Spring Onions : 1/4 cup (finely chopped)
  • Ginger : 1 tsp (finely chopped)
  • Garlic : 1 tsp (finely chopped)
  • Green Chillies : 3-4 (finely chopped)
  • Black Pepper Powder : 1/2-1 tsp (Freshly grounded)
  • Garam masala powder:1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to deep fry the momos


1. In a large bowl combine flour, azwain, oil, salt, Add water gradually and knead until the dough becomes soft. Cover and let it stand for at least 30 min.

2. In another bowl, add all the finelly chopped vegetables and mix them. To this add salt, pepper powder, garam masala powder and mix well.

3. Now divide the dough and shape into small balls and roll each ball with the rolling pin into a thin puri.

4. Spread a tablespoon of the filling on one half of the rolled out dough. Wet your finger and run it along the edges of the spread out dough with water and fold over to the opposite end, enclosing the stuffing to form a semi-circle shaped momo.

5. Press the ends firmly so that the filling doesnt come out during the deep frying process and twist the edges around the momo.

6. Heat enough oil in a wide vessel to deep fry the stuffed momos. Drop 3-4 momos into the oil slowly and deep fry them till golden brown, turn them carefully to the other side so that it cooks on all sides.

7.  Deep fry on medium heat (not scalding hot oil).

8. Veg Momos are ready to serve.
